Web Developer, Edinburgh, 6 months

Passionate about web development? Have c# ASP.Net MVC experience? Looking for a fun, remote role?

We need an ambitious, passionate and talented developer to join our distributed team.

Initially this is a 6 month contract, possible extension to a permanent role.

About the Role

You, with the rest of the development team, will be responsible for a number of Umbraco websites, including maintenance & support, bug fixing and adding new features. You will also be involved in the planning and development of new Umbraco sites, redesigns and overhauls of existing sites.

You will be working remotely as part of a globally distributed team. This takes a high level of motivation and the ability to self manage. You will also be communicating with clients directly. This requires excellent written and verbal English communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally with both technical and non-technical people.

On top of all that every member of our team is encouraged to spend a portion of their on the job time working on projects that have societal value. This might include open source development, charity projects or training and assisting other organisations. You need to be as excited about that prospect as the rest of the team!

About the company is a completely distributed company. We have no office. We are a small team of specialist web developers. We are driven by the ideal that our work should be valuable both financially and in a broader sense, for us and those we have the honour of working with AND that this can be done while living a well rounded, rewarding life.

Required Skills

  • are passionate about web development and developing your own skills
  • are willing to be measured by your output and the value you bring, not the hours you log
  • are outstanding at communicating both verbally and in written English
  • are detail oriented and excellent at self management
  • really, honestly care about quality of your work
  • understand how important good, disciplined process is; in software development as well as communication and project management

We are more interested in your interest in web development & your ability to learn, solve problems and professional approach to coding. However, you do need to have a good working knowledge in C# ASP.Net MVC and all the attending alphabet soup (including HTML/CSS and JS).

Experience of Umbraco CMS is a huge advantage, but is not required if you have the ability to learn quickly.

Company Values

Location & Hours

You can work from anywhere. You do not even have to stay in one location (some of our team travel a lot!). We are more interested in results than micro-managing which means there is some flexibility in your exact working hours. We also get together with the full team once or twice a year (for example in SE Asia).

Unlimited holidays

We really mean this, it’s not just a throw-away phrase nor does it mean taking less holidays. You must take at least one continuous 2 week break annually and, so long as the work gets done, as much other time as you can.

Growth & Learning

You we be supported by experienced developers and we provide Umbraco certification (after your first 2 months). We are a small, dynamic team looking to grow – the right person could become an integral part of that future!

We are an eclectic group and want to work with people who bring enthusiasm and energy, have values they care about and are able to be both professional and fun. If that describes you, then please get in touch!
