Full Stack Engineer – GRADUATE

Remote with monthly in office meetings in Glasgow or Edinburgh

About us

Proteus is a specialist change management consultancy that provides a range of services to clients around the globe. Our product team was born out of an ambitious software scale-up that helps businesses manage change better using our intelligent project delivery and diagnostic platforms.

We are a friendly team who cultivate an environment where people feel supported and empowered to contribute. We believe in the power of making mistakes in order to learn and improve. We also believe in setting clear goals and ensuring that everyone has what they need to help us achieve them.

The role

We’re looking for a Graduate Full Stack Engineer to help shape the future of AI-driven change assurance and delivery at Proteus. This is an exciting opportunity to join us as we evolve our award-winning platform and products towards a more intelligent, predictive, and outcome-focused future.

You’ll work across our full-stack platform environment (React, Node.js, GraphQL, Postgres), helping to design, build, and deploy systems that support our clients in delivering successful transformation outcomes — with AI tools and DevOps practices embedded into how you work every day.

You’ll play a key role in evolving our product into an innovative, AI-enhanced solution used by consultants supporting major organisations to assess risk, identify root causes of project failure before they happen, and make smarter, data-driven decisions in real time. You’ll also gain hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (such as Cursor and AWS Kiro) and contribute to the cloud infrastructure that powers our platform.

What you’ll do

  • Contribute to features and services across the full product stack — from front-end UX improvements to backend API development and cloud infrastructure
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to turn ideas and insights into usable, valuable features
  • Support feature delivery through the full development lifecycle, including design, testing, deployment, and maintenance
  • Learn and apply modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, deployment automation, and environment management within AWS
  • Use AI-assisted development tools (such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar) as part of your day-to-day workflow, while applying sound engineering judgement and testing practices
  • Contribute ideas towards improving our platform’s AI capabilities and data-driven features
  • Participate in Agile team ceremonies, code reviews, and collaborative problem solving with engineers, designers, and product specialists

About you

  • Recently completed, or are close to completing, a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of software development fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, APIs, databases, and web application architecture
  • Experience building applications through university projects, internships, placements, hackathons, personal projects, or bootcamps
  • Familiar with modern JavaScript development and front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue
  • Exposure to backend development using Node.js, REST APIs or GraphQL, and relational databases such as PostgreSQL
  • Understanding of cloud and DevOps concepts, with some practical exposure to AWS services, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, Docker, or infrastructure-as-code through coursework or personal projects
  • Comfortable using Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Interested in AI-assisted software development tools and keen to learn how AI can improve engineering productivity and product capability
  • Eager to learn, adaptable, and excited to work in a collaborative Agile product environment

BONUS (BUT NOT ESSENTIAL)

  • Internship, placement year, or freelance experience in software development
  • Experience with personal or university projects involving cloud platforms, AI/ML, data analytics, or automation
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as Lambda, ECS, S3, RDS, or CloudWatch
  • Exposure to CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins
  • Experience experimenting with LLMs, AI agents, embeddings, or tools such as AWS Bedrock, OpenAI APIs, or Python data tooling

Even if you’re still building your skills in DevOps, cloud engineering, or AI development, we’d love to hear from you — we’re building an environment where engineers can learn, experiment, and grow with real support and mentorship

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive salary
  • 25 days holiday (plus 8 public holidays)
  • Private healthcare, life assurance, and health cash plan
  • 5% employer contribution to pension scheme
  • Full remote working team (1 day per month face to face session in Edinburgh or Glasgow)

Why Join Proteus?

We’re on a mission to change how large organisations manage transformation, using our benchmark data and intelligent tooling to offer fast, data-led insights into project success. With over 20 years of IP and over 45,000 reviews in our dataset, we’re developing the "Project Change Score" - an AI-enhanced platform that enables better governance, decision-making, and delivery at scale.

Our engineering team is small but mighty, ready to experiment and build, with the support of our cross-functional product, design, and data teams. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders and have real impact from day one.
