Software Engineer, June 2018, Edinburgh

About the company

Administrate builds an online platform that helps training providers save time and money. Our mission to make our customer’s training operations and training courses run better for less money.
We are a quickly growing, young, energetic company, with an established global customer base, a solid core team, and a clear vision. Oh, and we work a 4 day, 32 hour week, but we'll pay you a 5 day wage.

About you

You're passionate about what you do. Always searching for a challenge, always looking to improve, you broke your first computer exploring what made it tick, then you rebuilt it, better than it was before. Better...stronger...faster.

You build your own great stuff for fun, but at work you choose standards and reuse, because teams are not just one person, and you don't reinvent the wheel. Do things once, if people think you're doing it twice, they are wrong, you scripted it weeks ago.

You're striving for perfection, but grounded in reality, completing the task comes first, but it's never something to hide behind, because you don't do 'ok'. If something sucks you say why, and how to sort it, it doesn't matter who's being stupid. You're honest to a fault.

We are looking for people who are keen to learn and want to excel. Work hard. Work smart. Work well.

Work on business critical applications with real customers around the world. We aren't building better social todo lists here, we do real software with real engineering.

Develop solutions in a variety of languages and leading technologies. Our core system is Python, but we use PHP and even good old Javascript on the frontend.

There is also a lot of training to get stuck in to. An opportunity to learn everything about how we work and why whilst getting to try it out. Our mentorship style will enable you to be in a great position to work in teams and add value. See what makes a champion Software Engineer and get a chance to beat the team at their favourite board games.

What You'll Get

Real world experience that will set you up for a career in software development - we want you to learn everything you need to get the job of your dreams wherever that may be. A new group of friends - joining our team is joining our family, we want you to be part of the future we’re creating.

Everyone has a voice in Administrate so we will value your ideas just as much as more experienced engineers.

What do you need to have for a 2018 summer internship?

  • Be eligible to work in the UK during university vacations
  • Currently studying Computer Science or a related degree
  • Have a huge passion for programming and a willingness to learn

Experience with specific programming languages and platforms is not necessary, but a knowledge of Python, PHP or Javascript may be beneficial.

If you are interested in being considered for a 3 month challenge which will be rewarding and fun, please submit your CV and any examples of your work (eg GitHub). We'll be carrying out screening and interviews in March and April, and aim to have communicated the final outcome by the beginning of May for a start in June.

In your cover letter, please answer the question: Why do you want to work for Administrate?
