Software Engineer Intern – Summer 2021 – Remote

About the Company

Administrate is a training management platform used by hundreds of companies around the world to plan, design, deliver, and measure learning and development for their employees and customers. Our mission is to provide an industry-leading platform that enables enterprises to run their training function more efficiently and effectively so that they can focus more on connecting with people than administering programs.

Our platform has evolved a lot in recent years, taking us up market, squarely into the enterprise tech space. We’re delighted with the success we’ve experienced so far, and we enjoy working together. Our headquarters are in Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city. We also have offices in Beirut, Lebanon and in Bozeman, Montana and other colleagues working remotely around the world.

It's our dream at Administrate to be the Ultimate Human Organization. We might build software, but that's not the only area where we add value to our customers; our people are what make us and our customers successful. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because we believe it makes our company stronger. If you share our values we'd love to hear from you.

About you

You're passionate about creating with software. You take a perfectionist yet pragmatic approach to software development, with a focus on completing tasks and completing them well. When something isn’t working for you, you are not afraid to step up and say why. You are honest and speak your mind.

You work well as part of a team and can communicate your thoughts and ideas clearly. You’re proactive in your approach to work. You believe in learning from your mistakes and you don’t let mistakes disrupt your focus on getting the job done - you fail fast, learn and move on (and you don’t make the same mistake again!).

You are always searching for a challenge, always looking to improve. We are looking for people who are keen to learn and want to excel.

About the role

You will join our team initially on a 12 week internship, working on business critical applications with real customers around the world. You will work in an Agile team, participating in daily stand-ups and other sprint ceremonies. You will collaborate with other team members and product owners to find the best solutions for our customers.

You will develop solutions in a variety of languages and leading technologies. We use Python for all new server-side code, running in the Flask framework. We use a variety of other technologies for example MySQL, React, and GraphQL, but you don’t need to have an in depth knowledge of our stack to be successful. If you’re willing to learn we can provide you with support in picking up new languages and technologies.

The program will also provide plenty of opportunities for learning outside of the day-to-day work with book clubs, team lightning talks and outside presentations from experienced industry professionals.

What You'll Get

  • Real world experience that will set you up for a career in software development - we want you to learn everything you need to be a world class software engineer.
  • Everyone has a voice in Administrate so we will value your ideas just as much as more experienced engineers.
  • You’ll get paid! Even better, we’ll pay you for five days and you work four, because we work a four day week here at Administrate.
  • If the internship goes well, you’ll find a job offer from us waiting for you at the end of the 12 weeks.

What do you need to have for a 2021 summer internship?

  • Be eligible to work in the UK during university vacations (or one of our subsidiaries - US, Lebanon)
  • Currently studying Computer Science or a related degree, or have relevant practical experience from your own study or work.
  • Have a huge passion for programming and a willingness to learn
  • Experience with specific programming languages and platforms is not necessary, but a knowledge of Python, PHP or Javascript may be beneficial.
  • Be in a position to take on a full time permanent position at the end of the internship.

Note: given we are still very much in the midst of a pandemic, the entire Administrate team is working remotely from home. As a result, the internship will be running remotely. So you will likely be working from home for the duration of the internship at least.

If you are interested in being considered for a placement on our internship program, please submit your CV and any examples of your work (e.g. GitHub). We'll be carrying out screening and interviews in March and April, and aim to have communicated the final outcome by the beginning of May for a start in June.
