CORE SYSTEMS OPERATIONS OVERVIEW
The Core Systems Operations group supports and engineers every facet of BlackRock’s technology infrastructure.
The group in Edinburgh consists of five teams who work closely together: Client Technical Services, Production Operations, Command Center Operations, Database Operations & Web Application Support.
The teams perform a wide variety of activities from maintaining system stability to engineering solutions to ensure the scalability, resiliency and performance of our state-of the-art trading and asset management platform, Aladdin.
We work with the infrastructure and development teams to provide subject matter expertise on the stability and performance of Aladdin.
TEAM STRUCTURE AND ROLE DESCRIPTION
Placement Students will be joining a young and diverse group of more than 40 professionals based in Edinburgh. The team supports both BlackRock and the external Aladdin Client base.
Our placement program is designed to ensure that you learn about all aspects of the technology infrastructure that supports our clients.
At the start of your placement there will be an induction in London followed by a structured training program in Edinburgh.
As a placement student you will spend time within some of the following teams:
Client Technical Services: Technical Integration and Liaison Team, servicing BlackRock Solutions and its clients through all phases of sales, implementation and operational life cycles.
Production Operations: Maintain and Support the core trading systems for BlackRock. These systems largely consist of proprietary distributed C++ and Java applications that interact via messaging middleware and databases.
Command Center Operations: Real-time problem solving and incident management for all core Aladdin systems
Database Operations: Architect & Operate every aspect of data technology and strategy at BlackRock.
Web Application Support: Monitor, Support and Enhance BlackRock’s websites and Data Integration Solutions.
This is an excellent entry point into BlackRock and will ensure the candidate gets a thorough understanding of the core technology infrastructure that supports Aladdin.
A strong interest and aptitude for quickly learning new technologies and proprietary systems as required.
A person who thrives on interactive troubleshooting, support and engineering.
Desirable Technical Skills (any combination of the below skills will be considered relevant):
Database: experience writing SQL queries and stored procedures
Operating Systems: Exposure to Unix or Linux operating systems
Programming/Scripting: experience in any of Java, Python, C++, GIT
Graduating in 2019 or 2020? Six-month placements are suitable for students graduating in 2019; 12-months placements are suitable for students graduating in 2020.
