Business Operations Summer Internship - Full Time - Edinburgh - Summer 2023
About the Company
Business Operations Summer Internships
Based in the heart of Edinburgh, Baillie Gifford provides investment management services for a wide range of clients globally. We have over 1,700 employees and in excess of £230 billion funds under management. And whilst we’ve been around for more than a century, we’re a firm that’s always looking forward.
The opportunity
Our Operations teams are often described as the ‘oil in the machine’ and are vital for the smooth running of our entire firm. These teams are responsible for everything from liaising with clients to reconciling trades and analysing operational risk. This is why we’re offering a wide range of summer internship opportunities, which will help you learn about a particular area of our business, whilst gaining a wider knowledge of the investment management industry.
Whichever area you’re interested in, you’ll benefit from a detailed induction and an individual learning and development plan. This includes both structured training sessions and on-the-job mentoring throughout your time with the firm. Students are also given a Learning Journal to record their experiences and accomplishments, which will help you with applications for future roles.
The internships are as different as the departments are diverse, however, each one offers the opportunity to add value to the business and gain a deep understanding of the function. Each role requires commitment, enthusiasm and the desire to explore the wider opportunities here at Baillie Gifford. This is your opportunity to prove to yourself – and us – what you’re capable of.
The internship will last 12 weeks, starting in June 2023. We have opportunities in the following areas:
Data Management
The Document Management team is responsible for the management of our client’s documentation. We ensure every piece of client documentation is handled and stored in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
External Platforms and Ratings Agencies
This team manages our relationships with external platforms such as Hargreaves Lansdown and fund rating agencies, providing them with information and analysis of our funds.
External Data Delivery
The External Data Delivery (EDD) team deliver timely, accurate and complete data to the firm. The types of data you’ll be working with include pricing, dividends, FX rates, indices, and static data, to name a few.
Post Trade Reporting
Post Trade Reporting ensure Baillie Gifford and our Investment Strategies work within our clients’ requirements and our regulatory responsibilities.
Requirements
We’re looking for people who are enthusiastic, ambitious, and keen to learn about a global investment management business. People who see opportunities where others see challenges. People who turn stumbling blocks into stepping-stones. First-rate communication and organisation skills are also essential, and we’d like to see evidence of this in your application.
You can be studying any degree subject, at undergraduate or postgraduate level, and must be in your penultimate year of study.
At Baillie Gifford, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful culture in which each of our colleagues can thrive and develop. We believe that our clients are best served by a diverse workforce with the experiences, ideas and perspectives that this brings.
Salary
In addition to the rewarding experience and invaluable skills and knowledge you’ll gain, there is a salary of £18,000 pro rata.

If this sounds like you then we want to hear from you!
