This ten-week placement in summer 2018 is your opportunity to work across the whole software development lifecycle as you learn about our pioneering Information Systems department and Baillie Gifford as a firm. So discover how leading-edge technology can drive business forward in the fast-evolving investment management industry.

Cutting edge technology at the heart of our business.

Baillie Gifford was established as an investment management partnership over 100 years ago.  Today, we are an independent global investment management business with over £150 billion under management and a team of more than 950 people based in Edinburgh.

Cutting-edge information systems underpin everything we do, which is why we develop most of our software in-house, operate a continuous development cycle and invest heavily in new technologies – and in the 230-strong team of professionals who bring that technology to life.

Be part of our ambitious team.

You’ll be joining an Application Development team that creates software solutions to make our business work better and smarter into the future. We work with advanced technologies like HTML5, Java Script, ASP.NET MVC, Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, and C#.

Experience the full lifecycle.

Following a week’s induction, you and your fellow intern will work together on a real business project as you take responsibility for the full lifecycle - from the initial brief to project planning, programming, testing and delivery. At every stage, you’ll meet with our experienced technical and business leaders who will support you throughout the process.

Running alongside your project, you will have a range of development opportunities with other teams in the department. So as you spend time with experts, you will be able to apply what you learn directly to your project.

In the final week, you will have the opportunity to launch your project to the ‘product owners’. We’ll also review your experiences and you’ll get the chance to present to Senior Management within our Information Systems department.

All about you.

Now in your penultimate year of study for a software development related degree, you’re fascinated by emerging technology and keen to explore its potential. What’s more, you’re just as keen to find out how that technology can be used to drive a leading investment management business.

So when you apply, we want you to tell us about any websites or apps you’ve built, blogs you’ve written or technical forums you’ve contributed to. Show us your problem solving approach to technical challenges too. We’re looking for well-rounded individuals who have a positive approach  - and as your project will be a web-based application, you will need to know your way around web technologies.

The placement runs from the 11th June 2018 to the 24th August 2018.

We’ll pay you a salary of £18,000 pa pro rata.

9TH February 2018.
